Single player runs fine. Multiplayer is possible but only if you run as root (worked this out after looking at debug output) it is also possible to use the BHD pinger (tool for multiplayer server joining) if run as root (running WINE apps I believe as root is not advised).
What does not
I appeared to have some graphic artifacts with the livida drivers, mirrored surfaces did not show correctly. However since I have only just rebuilt my computer with FC8 I am assuming it is this, as the graphics were fine on FC7 with 0.952 Wine.
What was not tested
Game update - I downloaded the patches and installed manually.
Logging onto novaworld servers, with a novaworld ID, I only go to public servers therefore never bother with novaworld IDs.
I will work on looking more closely at the debug info, but more than likely there is a very good reason why the network communications are blocked by a normal linux user and allowed by root.
