What works

Version: The Platinum Edition

everything 'cept for patching RtCW (ET patches works, 'cuz they ain't executable). runs flawlessly.

you might get a popoup warning you about "Low Desktop Color Depth". ignore it. doesn't matter whether you choose "ok", "cancel" or if you simply close the window. the 3D is fine anyway.

What does not

patching RtCW

Additional Comments

I could have rated this "platinum", 'cuz it runs flawlessly ('cept you can't patch it). buuut, the "installation" is very tricky, 'cuz it won't let you change CDs in the middle of the installation. so. first you have to copy the data & the rsc folders from both Wolplat_1 and Wolplat_2 (the CDs). then you have to WINE "Launch.exe", found on Wolplat_1. run the installation. when you get the message to "insert disc 2", press "abort". then press "exit setup", but DO NOT roll back. when asked to roll back, select "no". then WINE "Setupet.exe". install the game to your desired folder. download the latest patch. patch it. done. how to start the games: ET - from the desktop shortcut, or from the terminal using the WINE command. RtCW SP/MP - from the terminal using the WINE command. if you try to run the game in any other way (e.g. using your explorer, right-clickin' on the exes and choosing "open with 'WINE Windows Emulator'") will result in the game telling you that it "can't locate default.cfg", and then it asks you if you have installed it properly. which you haven't. PS be sure that you only have ONE "Main" or "main" folder, located inside the "Data" folder. during all this copying and the installation, you'll have at least two (a "main" and a "Main"), or maybe even three.

Workaround for a crash

If you notice the crash during game start, it could be caused by issue in AMD/Mesa drivers.

To workaround it, run the game with following environment variables set:

 NVidia: __GL_ExtensionStringVersion=17700 wine WolfSP.exe
 Intel/AMD: MESA_EXTENSION_MAX_YEAR=2005 wine WolfSP.exe
