"The Typing of the Dead" is unique typing rail-shooter. Mouse is replaced with keyboard . Released in 1999. Based on "House of the Dead 2".
Type or die!
Playing through the chapters. Arcade mode. Original mode. Drill mode. Boss mode.
Game fully playable and enjoyable!
Was able to have a fun time killing zombies with my keyboard!
What does not
Not much. One or two glitches (sometimes hard to distinguish between Wine problems and original game problems). Sometimes sounds are unsynchronised or the sound cuts out, response to your typing can be a tad delayed.
What was not tested
Playing till the very end.
Most of the boss fights in Boss Mode, many of the Drill Mode levels.
There are two "bugs" that I've seen happen in Windows too: 1) Smilebit and Sega logos at the start are slightly misaligned (seen it on Vista, not sure about XP) 2) No way to quit from the menu, you need to press Alt+F2 3) Other miscellanea and graphical glitches (making determine Wine's fidelity somewhat tricky). While a great game, the PC port was a tad deficient.

PART 1: Getting the game to work(but no sound):
You can also unpack sound files with command `wine mythxpak.exe myth.pak`
but at least on my system, having sounds in place causes the game to hang up after pressing a single button. You have to patch wine to get sound to work.
PART 2: Getting sound to work:
As of wine version 1.1.27 it is still necessary to apply a patch to source code and recompile. Big thanks to Torbjörn Söderstedt for the fix (see BUG 18823).
Below are instructions specific to Ubuntu, but they should be easily adaptable to any Debian derivative.
If wine version contained in your repositories is outdated, before proceding, you should consider updating your sources (see http://www.winehq.org/download/deb for more details). Do it with the following:
- Add the repo (replace `[YOUVERSION]` with `hardy` or `intrepid` or `jaunty`): sudo wget http://wine.budgetdedicated.com/apt/sources.list.d/[YOURVERSION].list -O /etc/apt/sources.list.d/winehq.list
- Add repo's gpg key: wget -q http://wine.budgetdedicated.com/apt/387EE263.gpg -O- | sudo apt-key add -
- Resynchronize index files: sudo apt-get update
If the game hangs after pressing a single button and you have `sounds` directory then you can:
