What works

Installing, launching the game, starting a new game and character creation, normal gameplay at least in the early game.

What does not

On launch, the game checks whether the display mode is 800x600x16, and if not, asks to change the display mode to be that. At least on a 64-bit host, even in an 800x600 emulated virtual desktop, this check always fails. Telling the game to change the resolution automatically lets the game start, although the color depth does not automatically get changed. I suspect this check fails because the emulated virtual desktop is not at a 16-bit color depth; if there is a way to configure this in Wine, I haven't found it.

At least in windowed mode ("emulate a virtual desktop"), the in-game cursor doesn't move left or up past its initial location unless you first move the X cursor into the window from the bottom or right-hand edge, at a place closer to the right or bottom than where the in-game cursor already is.

Approximately the right-hand quarter of the "log window" which is used for displaying most in-game text (at least special events, and I believe also NPC dialogue) is blank. Text flows into that area of the window as if normal, but no text is displayed rightwards of a certain point. The text cuts off in the middle of a letter in some cases.

Workarounds

What was not tested

Fullscreen mode. If the "in-game cursor movement" problem occurs in that mode as well, it would be even worse than in windowed mode, because you wouldn't be able to work around it by moving the X cursor out of the window and then back in from an appropriate location.

Because of the cut-off in-game text, I did not test playing beyond the very first area of the game.

Additional Comments

The text cut-off issue renders the game effectively unplayable for anyone who isn't relying on information from outside the game, or for anyone who actually wants to read the in-game text. Earlier reports for this game mention the text cut-off issue, but none of the others; however, I have seen them all for a very long time, I think since before Wine 1.0.0. If some of this is platform- or configuration-specific, I haven't been able to pin down what might affect it.
