Additional Comments

Appeared to work equally well with Microsoft Excel format documents but this was not tested thoroughly.

HowTo / Notes

WARNING Enhanced File Dialogues do not work under Wine

By default, Quattro Pro uses 'enhanced' (Explorer-like) file dialogues. These do not work under Wine. Quattro Pro will probably crash opening an existing spreadsheet or saving a new one unless the enhanced dialogues are disabled first.

Start Quattro Pro. Select Settings... under the Tools menu. Select File Options... Uncheck the "Use enhanced file dialogs" box. Click OK.

Program Crash or Hang on Exit

This is obvious when Quattro Pro is run from a console. It may give problems when Quattro Pro is run by clicking on an icon.

This seems to be an OLE issue as it does not occur when dcom98, the native Windows OLE implementation, is used. If you choose to use dcom98, you probably forgo any hope of support from WineHQ.

On the downside, with dcom98, PerfectExpert becomes almost as annoying as an animated paper clip.

Unable to Create Storage for OLE2 Object

Each time a Quattro Pro workbook is opened, a message box appears with this message. Ignore it. Oddly, there is no such message when Microsoft Excel format workbooks are opened.

This too is an issue that goes away when dcom98 is used.

Button Click not always Honoured

Sometimes clicking a button only seems to depress the button: the action the button is supposed to occasion does not occur. Simply press the button again.

Format > Selection Properties

Selecting this menu option presents a pop-up window. It is immediately obvious that this pop-window is not displayed correctly.

Many legitimate attempts to format the selection will be rejected. Seemingly because the number of decimal places has not been specified on the Numeric Format tab. Set the number of decimal places and try again.

Trying again will not work if you try to set cell content alignment. The application will not let you change the tab and so you cannot set the number of decimal places. The only way out of this is to save the workbook and close the application.

The formatting functions all appear to work correctly – it is only the selection properties window that does not. It is suggested you set selection properties and, in particular, cell content alignment by means of toolbar icons.

Drag-and-Drop

It is possible to drag-and-drop slide components (such as the title). However all attempts to do this seem to move the element off the top left-hand corner of the window. This is probably another consequence of the 0cm,0cm pointer position.

Finger trouble may result in a slide element being dragged-and-dropped off the top left-hand corner of the window and it is not possible to drag-and-drop the element back to where is came from. Control-Z will undo the drag-and-drop if used immediately. When it is too late to use Control-Z, try recovering the situation using Format > Reapply Layout.
