The Intstaller warns that the Tools will only work if Internet Explorer 5.0 or higher is installed. But gives you the possibility to continiue installing. The package contains many tools. I tested every one only for short. The tools AvrAssembler/avrasm32.exe AvrAssembler2/avrasm2.exe seem to work. They properly display the expected parameters.
What does not
AvrDragon/AVRDragon.exe: No (WINE starts Debugger) AvrStudio4.exe: No (WINE starts Debugger) JTAGICE/jtagice.exe: Exits because of a missing .dll STK500/stk500.exe: Exits because of a missing .dll
What was not tested
AvrProg/AvrProg.exe: Reports "No Supported Board found". However I do not have such board. If the two working assember above are really can compile something. What happens if you have IE 5.0 installed.
Some Tools are Garbage. But the two assemblers might be working well.
