What works

  • Tested in Standard:
    • All 28 help pages display.
  • Tested in Standard, Resource non-advanced mode, and Resource advanced mode:
    • Browsing by link, including study aids, cross references, etc.
    • Look-up by title, book, chapter, verse.
    • Print and print preview.
    • Font size changes.
  • Tested in Resource non-advanced mode (advanced mode appears to be the same functionality, so I would expect the same application behavior):
    • Help: (dynamic count) 206 of 210 pages display. Four pages, two repetitions of Using the Hebrew OT, Using the Greek NT, show blank. There is apparently equivalent help information in the "How To Use This Book" link once a Hebrew or Greek volume is opened. Advanced lessons also appear to cover these functions.
  • Tested in Resource advanced mode:
    • Open books for all installed volumes: English, German, Spanish, Maps, Photographs, and all variations of Hebrew and Greek (with English).
    • All four dictionaries. (Ignored dialog: "An invalid argument was encountered")

What does not

  • Search: typed characters show up apparently below the box. I couldn't get it to search for words, phrases, or anything else.
  • Observed a few "Unhandled page faults on read access to 0x00000000 in 32-bit code" in Resource advanced mode when I had iconified (minimized) a window and/or had done "Show Reference Books". This should be filed as a bug. I'll try to make time to file it.

What was not tested

Loading and saving of reference lists, bookmarks, snapshots, and lessons (other than quick look at advanced less on Hebrew OT).

Additional Comments

Does not require DLLs, so Gold rating is not appropriate. It works far better than the description for Silver. I would consider it Platinum if it weren't for the search and nullpointer problems. I don't have access to actual Gatesware, so I can't see whether application behavior might differ between Gatesware and Wine. The drop-down menus for look-up by title, book, chapter, and verse seemed finnicky. Many times, I had to enter book names by typing the first several characters rather than mousing the list. Standard mode uses wcSView.exe. Resource mode uses wcView.exe.

HowTo / Notes

AppDB page maintenance has been suspended.

Due to the considerable age of this application and the much newer web-based methods to access scriptural content making it highly questionable whether this page would be useful to anyone, maintenance of this AppDB page has been suspended.  A comment was posted in August, 2013 asking whether anyone still uses this application, and there has been no response.

If anyone does use this application, please post a comment.  If anyone does use this application, I'll probably resume regular testing with new versions of Wine.  (If someone else wants to be a maintainer of this page, I won't be opposed.)
