WineHQ

Minitab

15.1 Retail and trial version of Minitab. It works good but the installation is troublesome.

How to install:

  • Download DCOM98, set windows version in wine configuration to "Windows 98", then run DCOM98.exe
  • Download Minitab 14 japanese (trial) and install it. (Don't worry if you can't understand anything: when the License window appears click on " :::::::::(A) ", it probably means "accept")
  • Set windows version to "Windows XP"
  • Download Minitab 15.1 and install it.
  • Reboot linux
  • Run Minitab 14 and then close it
  • Now you can finally run Minitab 15
If you don't follow this procedure you won't be able to use graphs and control charts due to runtime errors (actually I don't know why).

What works

Everything, except Capability Analysis! Normally, other test has reported partial functionality (i.e. no graphs, no control charts, no Quality Tools). In this test, I could say 97% run fine. Installation went first with "Internet Explorer" and then with "Minitab 15". Minitab ask a License Mode, I choose "30-day Trial". I have not tested my license yet, wich is enterprise license which should go through the network looking for it at the internal server. In detail, it works fine: All STAT menu except Capability Analysis (Normal, Between/Within and Non-Normal), it also works GRAPH menu and its options with no exception, just some warnings (see below); CALC menu and its options, FILE menu and its options. Help files worked fine and I could see everything here. Also, the Internet Explorer worked the first time that it open automatically and I could navigate with no problem. Haven't tried to open it again.

What does not

Basically, 2 things doesnt work, and a third one work but with some warnings 1) Capability Analysis, under QUALITY TOOLS option, under STAT menu. 2) I couldnt paste data copied from Excel. This is very normal action, but didn't work. However, Data can bet retrieved from File menu, Open Worksheet as "Excel Worksheet - xls, xlsx". 3) some graphs and tests run well but with some warnings like "Declarations Line 85 - Variable is Undifined INTERVAL_NONE" and "object: the view, Event: EventInitialize, Line 10. Variable is undifined: CTYPE_ROW_:COUNT". But as I said, it shows the graph or result with no problem. I recommend you comparing these results with Minitab over Windows OS results.

Additional Comments

using WineBottle BETA 1.1.44 (http://winebottler.kronenberg.org) + "ie6" Winetricks, both at the moment of "Create Custom Prefix", using "new prefix" as template prefix. As a variant, I know there are more than one Minitab 15: one that its purpose is trial, another one that is for those one who already owns a serial license, and others who access a license over network. This test was made in a Minitab for those who have serial license, 126MB size on disk.

HowTo / Notes

HOWTO
Sometimes 3D graphs' windows will not close or minimize. If you want to minimize them go to window/minimize all; then you can restore only the worksheet and session window. If you want to forcibily close a 3D graph go to window/clos all graphs. This however will close every graph in Minitab.
