Additional Comments

To play, with no high resolution textures and no speech, but with sound effects and music : I installed native quartz.dll and devenum.dll with winetricks. I had to delete the speech folder in the game directory ("/Infogrames/Edge of Chaos - Indepedence War 2/streams/audio/speech") to keep music and sound effects but disable speech separately. Keeping the speech folder will make the game crash. I had to delete "/Infogrames/Edge of Chaos - Indepedence War 2/flux.ini", copy "/Infogrames/Edge of Chaos - Indepedence War 2/default.ini" and rename it flux.ini, because the configuration file created by the game engine on first run was wrong, causing an "neutral ships go hostile" bug, a keystroke delay bug, and a "fixed hud" bug (while your hud is supposed to move separately from the cockpit). Then, in the new flux.ini (resolution and "no hi res textures" fix): full_screen = 1 width = 1280 height = 800 texture_quality = 0

HowTo / Notes

Currently needed to get Edge of Chaos running
Cursor stuck in the window
- Run winetricks mwo=disabled

"Insert play CD" error message
- Create a virtual CD drive in winecfg, pointing to the game directory.
- This is also needed for the GOG version.

Textures missing
- Update to a recent version of wine.
If that's not an option, open flux.ini to [fcGraphicsDeviceD3D] and change the texture_quality to 0.

Crash during world load
- Remove the mods section in flux.ini. If you have non-existant mods in there, it may crash the game.

Screen not properly updating
- Update to wine-1.3.18. Alternatively, try disabling your window compositor (Compiz/KWin Effects).

The game freezes when someone talks
- Run winetricks quartz
- If that didn't work, also run winetricks devenum

The game freezes in main menu
- Disable the winegstreamer library:
- Run winecfg, got to the "Libraries" tab - Add a new override for "winegstreamer" and set it to disabled.

Game randomly crashes during loading
- Rename/Delete the file loading.mp3 from streams/audio/music in the game's directory.

I can't connect to a Multiplayer match
- Run winetricks directplay

My game behaves weird, I can't shoot and things explode all the time
- This is a bug of the game which occurs on systems with European language settings.
Europe uses a "," as a thousands delimiter, but the game needs a "." for that (USA style). Otherwise, it will corrupt the flux.ini.
Make sure you have a non-corrupted flux.ini and start the game like this:
LC_ALL="c" wine ./bin/release/loader.exe

Virtual CD-ROM From Game Directory

"Insert play CD" error message
- Create a virtual CD drive in winecfg, pointing to the game directory.
- This is also needed for the GOG version.
You may need to copy the "movies" directory from the install disk to your game directory in order for the above to work.
> winecfg
- Drives
- Add
- select C
- Browse to you game dir, e.g. "/data/machines/wine32/drive_c/Games/IndependenceWar2/"
- Show Advanced
- set Type = CD-ROM

Btw, I run using Windows Version = Windows XP
