Additional Comments

I had to use some tweaks to run the game properly. It deserves Gold though. There was trouble with mouse cursor "trapped" in center of screen. Problem was both in windowed and fullscreen. I had to use MouseWarpOverride=force in regedit. After it there was new problem. After starting game (getting in-game) mouse went down and right (character started rotating and looking down) and it was looking like there is no way to change it. I tried to run the game in virtual desktop (1024x768), because there wasn't any sign of this bug when virtual desktop was on, but the game was set to 1920x1080. The game (in-game) was running in that resolution, but window was decorated by KDE and not all was visible (lower ~50 pixels). Then I had the idea to run it in virtual desktop in 1920x1080 and here we are! The game is ok, mouse is ok and it looks like fulscreen (no window decoration, no system tray etc.) It would be good to write this down in the MouseWarpOverride section, so people can see it and run the game in that way! My ravenshield.exe settings in winecfg/display section: [ ] Allow DirectX apps to keep cursor inside window [x] Allow window decoration [x] Allow window manager to maintain windows [x] Emulate virtual desktop [1920] x [1080] (my native fullscreen resolution)

HowTo / Notes

HOWTO

In recent enough Wine (>=1.1.3) Vitaliy Margolen has imported the mouse warp workaround. To use it add this registry key:

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Wine\AppDefaults\RavenShield.exe\DirectInput]

MouseWarpOverride = force

Note: if your mouse sensitivity is high enough the cursor might jump out of the game window if you move your mouse fast, you could prevent this by using slower speed in X and higher sensitivity in game but you'll lose some accuracy

Intro movies cannot be skipped. Only way to do it is to remove the intro movies permanently or to replace them with empty files (might produce better results). The correspondig files are Videos/Logos.bik and Videos/int/RS_Intro.bik. If you happen to have crashing problems with the intro videos, this also gets you into the menu.

Multiplayer works flawlessly.

Known problems:

  • Intro movies are not skippable or might crash the game (workaround exists)
  • Mission planning menu may be garbage. You might be able to start the mission by blindly clicking at the lower right corner with the default plan. Some users report they do not have this issue or it works most of the time.
  • Some artifacts of the player models might appear in your hud, particulary at bottom left, not affecting the gameplay

Fixed problems:

  • Some snow textures are drawn black or can be seen trough (fixed in >= 1.1.3)
  • Mouse can't be used in the menu (workaround in >= 1.1.3)
  • When completing a mission Raven Shield crashes (fixed in >= 1.1.3)
  • Mission planning menu is garbage after finishing a mission (partially fixed in >= 1.1.3)

Everything above was tested with Wine 1.1.3.

Warning about Punkbuster

Punkbuster might or might not work. You will be kicked out of Punkbuster enabled servers without patching and can be marked as a cheater, so be careful!

 See bug 9685 for more details and patches.

Framerate stutter

If the framerate is not smooth, try both of these:

  1. wine reg add 'HKCU\Software\Wine\Direct3D' /v UseGLSL /d disabled
  2. In system/RavenShield.ini, set:
ReduceMouseLag=False
UseHardwareTL=False
MaxPixelShaderVersion=1
