Age of Empires III

What works

Playing a game, graphics, intro videos, sound, joining a LAN game.

Since I could not install this game, I copied the "Microsoft Games" directory from my Windows XP partition (on which I have the game installed and patched to 1.03) to ~/.wine/drive_c/Program\ Files/ and then mounted an ISO image of the War Chiefs CD to pass the CD check:

mkdir /media/iso
mount -o loop,ro /path/to/aoe3wc.iso /media/iso

I then symlinked one of my dosdevices to the iso and ran the game:

cd ~/.wine/dosdevices
rm e:
ln -l /media/iso e:
cd ~/.wine/drive_c/Program\ Files/Microsoft\ Games/Age\ of\ Empires\ III
wine age3x.exe

The game then asked for my serial and I had to agree to the license, then it ran fine.

What does not

Installation - When attempting to install, it claimed I did not have AOE3 installed.

Hosting a LAN game - when hosting, other players on the LAN could not see my game.

The fonts used for game menus are different to running under Windows XP.

Rated bronze because one would need a copy of Windows on which to first install it, then to copy the files to Linux.
