Difference seems to be Graphics Chip, Nvidia vs. Intel, but I can only verify with the machines I have.

Along with other patch changes, there is also a small one for wine users: game's animated cursors are actually shown, if patches from bug 12248 are applied.

2. Make sure wine is configured to use GLSL. See wiki.winehq.org/UsefulRegistryKeys for details.
3. Search the game's readme for the list of supported video cards. If yours is not there - it is VERY likely that you'll see only game's main menu.
4. In-game shaders should be set to 'low'. 'Scenery backgrounds' should be disabled.

"What does not
Mouse cursor in game menu is still invisible. If game runs in window, X cursor is visible, though. "

In game settings, graphics set Mode to windowed.
Also set wine to emulate virtual desktop. Then X cursor is visible.
Works fine for me.
