Version 4.00 doesn't really mark any significant changes but the previous version which was 3.99 could only be logically followed by incrementing the major number.

Version 4.40 brought in the first native 64 bit release which improved the performance of loading large images (more than 25 megapixels).

What works

Most everything appears to work normally, but I did not fully regression test with the new Wine version 7.20 and later before I downgraded to working version 7.19.

What does not

The legacy PDF plugin ImPDF.dll used for saving PDF files is broken as of Wine version 7.20.  I also confirmed it is broken with Wine version 7.22.  It works just fine with Wine version 7.19 and earlier (as far back as I can remember).

Steps to reproduce:

  1. Open IrfanView.
  2. From the top menu, go to Options --> Properties/Settings --> Plugins --> PDF options.
  3. Make sure "Use (new) "PDF.DLL" PlugIn for PDF saving" checkbox is unchecked, then click OK and OK.
  4. Open any image with IrfanView.
  5. From the top menu, go to File --> Save as...
  6. From the File Chooser GUI, go to "Files of type:" and select "PDF - Portable Document Format".
    1. If you have Wine version 7.19 and earlier installed you will see a "PDF Settings" dialog box pop-up and give you more options.
      1. Make sure "after selection of file (select settings then)" radio button is selected under "Preview of PDF during save operation".
    2. If you have Wine version 7.20 or later installed you will see no pop-up.
  7. Click the Save button in the File Chooser GUI.
    1. If you have Wine version 7.19 and earlier installed you will see a "Save PDF" dialog box pop-up and give you more options.
If you have Wine version 7.20 or later installed you will receive an error.

Downgrade to Wine version 7.19.

What was not tested

Almost every other feature with Wine version 7.20 and newer.  With Wine version 7.19 and earlier every feature I have ever used works flawlessly.

Hardware tested

  • GPU: AMD
  • Driver: open source

Additional Comments

If you don't use the ImPDF.dll plugin then you probably won't notice any difference using IrfanView between Wine versions 7.19 and 7.20-22.  However, I use this plugin almost every day and I cannot upgrade Wine until this issue is fixed.

selection cursor is not correctly aligned

- select an area in an image
- correct the selection by dragging the left selection border to another position
--> the double-ended arrow cursor ofen is not correctly aligned with the selection border
I guess this happens, when the image is zoomed.
