IrfanView

Version 4.00 doesn't really mark any significant changes but the previous version which was 3.99 could only be logically followed by incrementing the major number.

Version 4.40 brought in the first native 64 bit release which improved the performance of loading large images (more than 25 megapixels).

What works

  • Installation (if you have the MFC42.DLL already put in the system32 folder of your .wine directory).
  • Image manipulations (flip, rotate, resize, etc)
  • Batch conversions
  • Zoom, navigation, copy, paste
  • Printing
  • Slideshow

What does not

  • Thumbnails. You can display the thumb manager, but the application will immediately lock up, requiring a force quit.
  • When browsing a directory, if you try to move past the last image, the program crashing with a page fault. It works properly if you try to move to the previous image when on the first one in the directory.

Additional Comments

Make sure you put the mfc42.dll file in the proper directory before you attempt to install. It seems to work best if you download the driver from microsoft.com or pull it from an existing Windows installation, rather than downloading the driver from various driver repository sites, as they have have a tendency to be either corrupt or outdated.

selection cursor is not correctly aligned

- select an area in an image
- correct the selection by dragging the left selection border to another position
--> the double-ended arrow cursor ofen is not correctly aligned with the selection border
I guess this happens, when the image is zoomed.
