Version 4.00 doesn't really mark any significant changes but the previous version which was 3.99 could only be logically followed by incrementing the major number.
Version 4.40 brought in the first native 64 bit release which improved the performance of loading large images (more than 25 megapixels).

Requires MFC42.dll to be in the system32 folder and registered as a library in winecfg. If you get this error: "Unhandled exception: page fault on read access to 0x50008939 in 32-bit code (0x7bc3484d)." you'll need to open ~/.wine/drive_c/Program Files/IrfanView/i_view32.ini and delete: "[Toolbar] Skin=Grosberg_24.png Size=24"

- correct the selection by dragging the left selection border to another position
--> the double-ended arrow cursor ofen is not correctly aligned with the selection border
I guess this happens, when the image is zoomed.
