installing, running the game, sounds, starting a new game, loading a game, saving over a preexisting game
What does not
saving a new game without overwriting a preexisting game save
Sometimes trying to move the various sub windows of the game will cause them to glitch and will get 'stuck' on the mouse and will permanently be 'moving' where the mouse is pointed. Haven't been able to figure out a way to work around this except to quit the game entirely and restart it.
What was not tested
Have not played it for very long, so don't know if there are bugs in the later stages of the game I have not seen yet.
You have to do workarounds for various problems. For making a new game save, cd into the directory you installed simtower (usually drive_c/SIMTOWER) and run 'touch save.tdt' - when telling the game to save, click on that file in the game save GUI and tell it to save over it. Otherwise the game will crash in that dialog if you tell it to make a new game save. Sound - now this was an irritating problem to figure out. Sound did not work at all for me until I manually edited c:\windows\WAVMIX.INI - specifically, I needed to change the WaveOutDevice=0 to -1 If you still have problems, try editing showdevices at the start of the file and set it to 1, which will give you additional information about whatever the wavmix16.dll tries to use when you start simtower. This URL tells more about the information in wavmix.ini and is how I figured out how to get sound working for me: http://www.compuphase.com/wavemix.htm Finally, the GUI has a tendency to lose focus or glitch. If a window has gone AWOL, try selecting it from the in game window menu, this will make it disappear, and if you select it again from that menu it'll show up again. I hope that this will help people to be able to play this game finally. This is the first time I have been able to play this game with everything working since I stopped using windows in 1998 - kudos wine, you've gotten one of my favorite time wasters working :)

At present, do NOT attempt to play SimTower with sound support enabled.
It will crash or hang infinitely, depending on your Windows version setting. In either case, it's not playable.
Disable sound, either by editing SIMTOWER.INI or disabling your sound device in winecfg's audio tab.
This is true as of 1.1.13 and today's latest git (1-23-09).
