Additional Comments

I had sound during installation, but not when the game itself started. I went back here and checked bug #9027. After reading through that, I ran winetricks for directx9 and mfc42 and set the following DLL overrides as native: dmime dmsynth dmusic dsound dswave l3codecx Then sound worked as well. I hesitated a bit if I should rate this gold instead of platinum, but sound being so minor and the fix so trivial I decided it was worth the highest rating, it really works flawless now.

HowTo / Notes

HOWTO

Cursor Bug

To get around the cursor/pointer bug, you will need to edit the "/home/test/.wine/drive_c/Program Files/Microsoft Games/Rise of Nations Trial" file and set ForceGDICursor=1.

Cursor Bug

There is a cursor bug that can:

  • Cause the mouse buttons to not do what you expect; or
  • Cause a transparency problem with the cursor; or
  • All of the above

To work around this, edit the rise2.ini file (~/.wine/drive_c/users/{user}/Application Data/Microsoft Games/Thrones and Patriots Trial/rise2.ini) and set "ForceGDICursor=1".

Please report if you had to do this when submitting reports.
