Additional Comments
Note that IRDA communication requires EITHER kernel 2.6.37 (or newer, that's already fixed) OR patched irda-module for older kernels. IRDA-patch is "irda: irttp: allow zero byte packets". Patch net/irda/irttp.c, compile module (make M=net/irda modules). Copy irda.ko into /lib/modules/*. See bug 19397 "Polar ProTrainer 5: IRDA connection to heart rate monitor does not work (not a Wine bug)" in wine-bugzilla. IRDA may also need setting baud-rate to 9600. Either manually by echo 9600 | sudo tee sys/net/irda/max_baud_rate or by using /etc files. If irdadump irda0 doesn't see HRM device, use irattach irda0 -s 2011 distributions ought to work almost out of the box according to polar forums. Wine 1.3.14 also works.
