This is the free version that is avilable from: http://news.filefront.com/sam-and-max-abe-lincoln-must-die-now-available-for-free/ When the game is started there is a browser window that shows up, probably to remind you to buy the next game, some of the content is obviously missing (possibly flash based) clicking and keys do nothing. In order to proceed you need to start the game from the console and press ctrl+c once when the window appears, you will get a warning message with a bunch of html in it then you can press ok to proceed. After that the game seems to work fine.
