Selected Test Results

What works

  • Video and sound in Xvid and Divx movie files (play with MPC settings if sound doesn't work at first). Decent quality.
  • Opening through Association (associate MPC with your video files, open from file explorer)
  • Menu items (apart from open file)
  • Settings/Options

What does not

  • Menu item - File -> Open... (of any sort, can't view directory files)
  • MP3 files although this is most likely a codec problem (user error)

HowTo / Notes

HOWTO Get It Working (somewhat)
  1. You need the files "quartz.dll" and "devenum.dll" from an original Windows installation. You can also obtain these 'native' dlls by using Google.
  2. Register the dlls by moving them to "~/.wine/drive_c/windows/system32" and executing the following commands:

    regsvr32 "C:\windows\system32\quartz.dll"
    regsvr32 "C:\windows\system32\devenum.dll"

  3. Install a codec package, like K-Lite Codec Pack. This package also provides Media Player Classic.
  4. You might need to do some additional configuration of the codecs to create a more stable viewing experience. K-Lite Codec Pack installs a few configuration tools in your Wine menu.
