What works

Playing videos (if you installed the codecs) opened through file asociation or drag and drop.

altought you need to use and register native quartz.dll and devenum.dll for the codecs to work.

regsvr32 "C:\windows\system32\quartz.dll"
regsvr32 "C:\windows\system32\devenum.dll"

And maybe installing the codecs after registering them (not before) is needed as well. I really wouldn't know about this last thing.

What does not

Opening a file with the menu file->open

video playback is upside down and in 256 colours if a directvobsub subtitle is loaded.

HowTo / Notes

HOWTO Get It Working (somewhat)
  1. You need the files "quartz.dll" and "devenum.dll" from an original Windows installation. You can also obtain these 'native' dlls by using Google.
  2. Register the dlls by moving them to "~/.wine/drive_c/windows/system32" and executing the following commands:

    regsvr32 "C:\windows\system32\quartz.dll"
    regsvr32 "C:\windows\system32\devenum.dll"

  3. Install a codec package, like K-Lite Codec Pack. This package also provides Media Player Classic.
  4. You might need to do some additional configuration of the codecs to create a more stable viewing experience. K-Lite Codec Pack installs a few configuration tools in your Wine menu.
