Released in 2007. Free restricted version of ChessBase 9. More information here.
Installation, splash screen, database window (selecting a db.) Was able to "see" games list and "select" a game (see does not work.)
What does not
Everything else. Program freezes whenever a menu is selected. The games list in a db, and move/annotation text in the game, displays using one of the installed chess fonts (series of piece and board graphics.) These screens are not readable. This problem then occurs in other Wine programs, requiring moving the installed fonts out of the Windows/Font directory. Program does not display chessboard and freezes hard at the drop of a hat. Definitely NOT usable.
What was not tested
Program is essentially untestable, as essential functions do not work and results are unreadable. Should really have a 'garbage' rating, but the thing does install.
If you have the 'font problem' where other Wine programs start displaying text in chess fonts/glyphs, moving all the installed fonts out of the Windows/Fonts directory may solve the problem. (Could just be the Dia**.ttf files, but I moved them all as CB fonts were the only ones I had installed.)
