BloodRayne 2

BloodRayne 2, developed by Terminal Reality, is a horror-themed third-person action video game. It does not follow on directly from where BloodRayne finished; instead, it takes place between sixty and seventy years later, in a contemporary(2000s) setting. This game could possibly be set in 2004, the year the game was released. (from Wikipedia entry) English DVD retail Version.

What works

Game installs fine. Running in 1024x768 virtual desktop it starts fine except for error messages when trying to play videos. Performance is smooth. Some artifacts in 3d were fixed by switching to fbo. First level looks very playable.

What does not

No-CD fix is required to run the game. The original exe doesn't even get to the point where it says the CD is missing. It complains about missing ASPI layer instead. No fonts anywhere in the game. Judging by the game resources the fonts are custom-drawn from image files. Minor issue possibly related to fonts is that the loading screens don't display 'background' image - just the progress indicator. Video is not working. Error dialog says "Failed to set message drain" and console contains fixme:quartz:MPEGSplitter_query_accept MPEG-1 system streams not yet supported.

Workarounds

What was not tested

Only a small portion of the first level was tested. Nothing related to in-game menu was tested because there's no text.
