What works

Game loads properly in all versions, sound works. Actually runs quite a bit more smoothly in wine than in windows.

What does not

Full screen mode causes crashes; I recommend you edit init.txt and set the default mode to windowed (otherwise it asks you every time) and disable the F11 key in interface.txt, to avoid catastrophe.

Workarounds

What was not tested

Graphics mode.

Additional Comments

This actually runs a little bit /too/ well in wine, so you might want to reduce the maximum framerate in init.txt to something like 15 from 100 to match the windows speed in fortress mode.

HowTo / Notes

A couple of known bugs with the game (it is alpha, after all)

There are a few bugs in the game that are NOT problems with wine:

 1. Game runs slowly in adventure mode, especially when your movement speed is low and you hold a direction key.

2. In fortress mode, the direction keys get "stuck", especially when you use shift+dir. To fix this, try pressing numlock and the direction keys a few times, or holding down shift while pressing and releasing the key that is stuck.

3. Permafloods and stupid dwarves doing stupid things. Obviously, sane people wouldn't think this is a wine problem, but just in case not everyone reading this is sane, I'd better add this.

See the Dwarf Fortress Wiki for more detailed information on these bugs and other (less noticable/rarer) bugs.

Also, if you find that none of your keys seem to work, it's probably because your window lost focus, and to regain it in the game you have to click INSIDE the dwarf fortress window (not on the title bar).
