Game plays. Blending fixed as of wine 0.9.15-0.9.16, which means the comic strips show up, the red blend when you get hit doesn't wash out the screen anymore, and the health bar isn't visible in cutscenes. When disc type is set to "cdrom" in winecfg, the play disc works in the drive for the cd-check (with the original 1.00 disc out of the case). Eax sounds fantastic on ALSA, especially in the 'Ragnarock' level. With the graphics set at 'medium' the game is very playable on an Athlon 2600+ with a older GeForce3 graphics card.
What does not
Dinput is seriously regressed. On both Max Payne and Max Payne 2, not all keys work anymore, but for some strange reason W, A, S, and D always work, plus 'esc' to get out of the game. I followed the lead of the previous testing results submitter (thanks) and renamed the /dlls/dinput/ folder to dinput.old, then copied over the dinput folder from wine 0.9.10, reconfigured and recompiled wine. This fixes the above problem, and brings back an old "pause key signal on screen load" that was fixed, but is not really a big problem. This is a real temporary fix, and probably not very stable. Also, triple screen buffers don't work, use double buffers instead. Gave the app a gold rating anyway, despite having to hack the wine source a little, it plays great.
What was not tested
Since I used the Loki Installers for Linux Gamers installer, I didn't test the normal installer or the patch installer to version 1.05, as the LIFLG installer takes care of that.
Awesome, I have been waiting since last year to play this game without rebooting into Windows.
