-Multiplayer (tested about 10 hours)
-VCded

What does not

-

Workarounds

What was not tested

-

Hardware tested

Graphics:

  • GPU: AMD
  • Driver: open source

Additional Comments

-Vanilla game is not playable (bug 9337) - VCStarter 1.7Beta fixes this.
-Also enabled "Fix crashes in singleplayer on Windows Vista and up (radiocalls)" in VCStarter.
-I also installed directplay by winetricks (bug 33295).
-Game very good playable except few FPS drops (see below)

Tested SW:
Linux 4.7.2
Mesa 12.0.1 (for Intel and AMD cards).
Vietcong 1.60 (max quality)

Tested HW:
Resolution: 1366*768
Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-4210M CPU @ 2.60GHz
GPU 1: Intel HD Graphics 4600
GPU 2: AMD Radeon R7 M265

Performance tests (Intel):
Prologue: 70-80 FPS
Midnight Surprise: 40-70 FPS
The Underground City: 80-120 FPS
Too Many Targets: 50-70 FPS
Halong port: 60-120 FPS

Performance tests (AMD):
Prologue: 70-80 FPS
Midnight Surprise: 30-60 FPS
The Underground City: 70-120 FPS
Too Many Targets: 50-70 FPS
Halong port: 50-120 FPS

I discovered few places in campaign with huge (Intel) or giant (AMD) FPS drops. All these places are from night missions: Midnight Surprise (fire explosions and flares) and Tunnel Rat/The Underground City (on some places or during some gunfights). At these places game also sometimes crashed.

AMD has worse (!) results than Intel. Moreover there was some tearing problems on AMD card. Not sure what causes these problems, maybe AMD driver issue...

There is also problem with preview images of loading games (both Intel and AMD)

HowTo / Notes

The game crashes after start (when loading some 3D scene)

You can install VCStarter v1.7 BETA (more info at vietcong.info ), apply patch from 39057 or use Wine-Staging. See the corresponding bug report ( 9337 ) for more details.

The game crashes in campaign when radiocalls icon is shown.

Enable "Fix crashes in singleplayer on Windows Vista and up (radiocalls)" in VCStarter.
See the corresponding bug report ( 43567 ) for more details.

The game immediately crashes

Check your maps folder for number of downloaded maps. Game usually won't start when the maps folder contains more than about 500 maps (1000 files, since every map consists of two files).

Moving some of the maps into another folder (or deleting them) is the only working solution.

There are no servers found in in-game server list. Is Vietcong MP dead?

No it is not, but GameSpy support has ended. Vietcong now uses new master server: Qtracker. Add this line into your /etc/hosts (on your Unix system, not your Wine virtual disc):
65.112.87.186 master.gamespy.com
You can also use online server list at vietcong1.eu.

Connecting to a multiplayer server does not work

Install directplay using winetricks:

winetricks directplay
See the corresponding bug report ( 33295 ) for more details. With that the (lib32-)gnutls library might be required to run the game.
