Presentation of digitized (bitmap) topographical maps.
All official digitized maps for Germany are available only through Geogrid-Viewer because of proprietary, undocumented (and patented) data format. (see. http://swpat.ffii.org/brevets/effets/geogrid/index.en.html) Geogrid-Viewer is used for products like TOP25 and TOP50 of the german Landesvermessungsämter.

What works
- viewing topgraphical maps - measureing distances, planes and elevations - navigating within the maps - viewing multiple maps, - couple different maps, if navigating in one map the other is refreshed automatically - createing, saving and loading overlays - setting different units for distances, planes and elevations - setting different coordinate systems and grids like UTM, Gauß-Kröger, PO Military, BNG and many others - viewing 3D images with red/green glasses - windows settings like rulers, toolbars... - showing map scale - activation of map shading - drawing on maps and saveing as overlay - brideing and shadeing maps - zooming in and out - searching for locations (alter manually installing ODBC drivers) - reading track data from GPS log file, tracking GPS data on map - autopanning
What does not
- minor drawing issues when municipal borders are activated - printing of maps, but printing elevation profiles worked - the statical perspective view showed redraw issues - dynamical perspectiv view don't work at all
Workarounds
What was not tested
reading data from any GPS device due to lack of GPS device
Hardware tested

Geogrid stores location information in a MS Access database. In order to allow the location search in Geogrid it is required to have ODBC drivers to accessing MS Access installed.
For easy installation we use Dan Kegels winetricks script to install ODBC drivers. The winetricks script can be downloaded from Dan's website: http://kegel.com/wine/winetricks
1.) start winetricks with ./winetricks mdac28 and it downloads and installs the mdac package from Microsoft. With ./winetricks jet40 install the MSJet drivers to be able to read/write MS Access databases.
2.) Unfortunately the installation don't set the required registry keys for the MS Access database ODBC driver. It is therefore required to add the following registry keys manually:
--start
REGEDIT4--end
Save the line between --start and --end to a file i.e. odbc.reg. Then start the registry editor with wine regedit.exe. Select "Registry import..." from the Registry menu and load the file odbc.reg.
3.) After starting geogrid viewer, in Menu Edit-Objectdata-Search for objects you should see the local database listed.
