What works

The Installation works without any problems, even the progress bar is working properly.
Client update works without any problems.
You can either start the game windowed or fullscreen.
New skins for the GUI need to be extracted manual:

Changing the zone and moving around is no problem and works fine.
Had no crashes so far when playing in fullscreen.

What does not

Pixel shader needs to be disabled to run the game and this results in old character models (tested all kind of different settings and couldn't get this to works it crashes on character selection screen)

The mouse arrow is flickering and most of the time not visible (haven't tested any hacks here, only the standard 0.9.43 version of wine)

If I play in windowed mode and leave the window the game still runs, but if I click back into the window it crashes (same problem if I change the applications with Alt+Tab using the windowmanager)

While playing the game it comes to several error messages of the wineserver, but the game won't crash due to those errors

The graphic has several errors, black holes around objects and more

What was not tested

I didn't try any of the hacks (e.g. mouse-hack)

Hardware tested

  • GPU:
  • Driver:

Additional Comments

It is worth to install, because there is no need to try Cedega which has exact the same issues with this version of the game (tried it with 6.0.2)

HowTo / Notes

System Setup
  • ~10GB free hard disk space.
  • 1GB RAM or more recommended Graphics card that supports pixel shaders >= 1.4
  • glxinfo | grep direct # should say yes.
  • If not, check your distro's docs for setting up accelerated video drivers.
  • Disable Compiz (GL Desktop, Desktop-effects) for better performance.
  • Fairly clean system. At least 50% free CPU resources (run top and check).
  • Fullscreen mode may crash if your modes (or metamodes) are not set up properly in xorg.conf (run xrandr to see if your X server can swtch to e.g. 800x600, 1024x768 or whatever you run the game in). "If the X server can't switch, the game may bitch."
  • If you have no mouse cursor, apply the hack below to use the X cursor instead.
  • Run winecfg. Turn off pixel shaders.

Applying The Patch:

cd $HOME/Download/wine
patch -p0 < wine-X-cursor-hack.patch
# If you have already installed from source, just re-run make
make -s > /dev/null && sudo make install

Alternately, you can run make from within the $HOME/Download/wine/dlls/winex11.drv folder and copy to wherever wine was installed, probably /usr/local/lib/wine.

If you are worried about the cursor hack messing up other programs you can run wine directly from the source tree without installing:

$HOME/Download/wine/wine camelot
