What works

All in-game videos and menus are working. I was able to play the Training and Police Station missions with ease.

However, the game MUST be run in 640x480 pixels mode. I changed to this mode in Ubuntu before starting the game. If the game was run fullscreen in any other mode, graphical corruption would occur. Despite this, I was able to play with the highest graphics settings with very good fps.

What does not

Any display mode other than 640x480. Some sound effects were also slightly out, which was a bit annoying. I also had occasional, minor lighting errors, but these did not affect gameplay much.

What was not tested

Installation - I simply copied the files over from my Windows installation.
The rest of the game after the Police Station mission.

HowTo / Notes

How to fix lighting and shadow effects.

For Windows and Linux systems who have newer video cards:

The shadow placements may be incorrect and therefore spotlight beams, flash light beams and ceiling light beams may not appear.

To fix this do the following:

  1. In the game folder go to SYSTEM folder and open SplinterCell.ini file with text editor.
  2. Find block [D3DDrv.D3DRenderDevice]
  3. Add or change (if string exists) ForceShadowMode=1 to ForceShadowMode=0
  4. Save the edited file
PlayStation 3 HD textures

The textures from the PlayStation 3 port of Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell are higher definition and can be installed by overwriting the existing textures.

The HD textures are mostly faithful to the original textures.
