What works

Most things: Install, Ubisoft logo video, play, cut scenes, sound (once you change to OSS), etc.

What does not

Sound before changing from ALSA to OSS

What was not tested

Multiplayer (is there such a thing?).

Hardware tested

Graphics:

  • GPU:
  • Driver:

Additional Comments

Sound only works if you change the audio driver to OSS. If you don't, some triggers don't work (like some guards don't move position, laser mics don't work when the subject is stationary. The conversation just continues...)

HowTo / Notes

How to fix lighting and shadow effects.

For Windows and Linux systems who have newer video cards:

The shadow placements may be incorrect – Spot light beams may not appear, flash light beams may not appear, ceiling light beams may not appear.

To fix this do the following:

  1. In the game folder go to SYSTEM folder and open SplinterCell.ini file with text editor.
  2. Find block [D3DDrv.D3DRenderDevice]
  3. Add or change (if string exists) ForceShadowMode=1 to ForceShadowMode=0
  4. Save the edited file
PlayStation 3 HD textures

The textures from the PlayStation 3 port of Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell are higher definition and can be installed by overwriting the existing textures.

The HD textures are mostly faithful to the original textures.
