Quicken

Start saving for what you and your family really want -- vacations, better day care, a new home -- by staying on top of your everyday spending. Quicken Deluxe 2008 replaces the old-school concept of "personal money management" with a smarter way to keep track of your money and set longer-term savings goals.

What works

Installation (from downloaded Quicken_Deluxe_2008.exe file)

Online Updates for program and account information.

Open and use an existing Quicken file (I have not extensively tested all of the features but so far I have not seen any problems manipulating existing data)

What does not

Used WineTricks http://wiki.winehq.org/winetricks (based on recent Test Results by Mike B) to install:

flash (before and after installing flash Quicken opened but crashed after selecting an existing or new file)

gdiplus (allowed program to continue working beyond opening a file)

gecko (I did not initially install gecko with WineTricks but Wine prompted me that it is required and then prompted me to automatically downloaded and installed gecko)

After installation and software update, and upon opening a new file or existing file, Quicken prompts you to register your software.  This does not work.  To work around this problem a trick I found from the Crossover site:

"Before online update will work, Quicken requires that you register with them. This does not currently seem to work but you can disable the registration functionality. This will prevent you from synchronizing with Quicken.com but will allow you to perform online banking downloads. To disable the registration prompt, click the Online menu and then (while holding left-Shift and left-Ctrl) click One Step Update. It will notify you that you will no longer be prompted for registration."

Workarounds

What was not tested

I used an existing Quicken file that I previously set up and used in Windows so I did not test any new user setup:
Set up a new Quicken file from scratch.
Set up new accounts and online services from scratch.
