The Amazon MP3 Downloader is software you'll use along with the Amazon MP3 Store and Amazon Cloud Player to manage your music.
The Downloader is a piece of software that streamlines the process of downloading by enabling you to download entire albums or playlists and automatically import them into iTunes or Windows Media Player.
Does not work at all for me, either with direct program execution or trying to open the .amz file with the command line. I can get the program to start but it crashes shortly after. This is tested with 64 bit Ubuntu V8.10.
What does not
Does not work at all for me, either with direct program execution or trying to open the .amz file with the command line. I can get the program to start but it crashes shortly after.
What was not tested
the latest version of the windows downloader tested with 64 bit Ubuntu V8.10 and latest version of Wine (as of 12/30/08)
not ready for prime time. Unfortunate because Amazon has some killer MP3 deals. You can still download 1 song at a time but this is a pain. They have a 32 bit Ubuntu downloader now too.

Make sure you operate on a clean WINEPREFIX (~/.wine)!
Prerequisite installation by using 'winetricks' script
Winetricks will take care of all needed installation prerequisites and work around some problems.
Run the app installer:
Run the application with the .amz file as first argument to start downloading:
/home/<your_username>/.wine/drive_c/Program Files/Amazon/MP3 Downloader
$ wine AmazonMP3Downloader.exe foo.amz
Bad programming practice/error handling. The application tries to add the downloaded file to the media library by default using "Windows Media Player" without any error checking.
You can disable this behaviour in application settings -> "do nothing".
Alternatively, installing Windows Media Player also works around:
$ winetricks -q wmp9
