    What works

    Pretty much everything. Downloads albums and tracks. As previous tester noted, left-click to open menus, right-click to select menu item.

    What does not

    Is set to add songs to Windows Media Player by default, but when song download completes and WMP opens, the song is not added to the playlist. Tested with WMP9. Workaround is to set preferences to "Do Nothing" when download completes and copy songs from the download directory manually.

    If WMP is not installed, and you haven't changed the preferences to "Do Nothing" when a download completes, app will crash.

    Additional Comments

    Didn't give it gold because of the Media Player issue. Otherwise works fine.

    HowTo / Notes

    Amazon MP3 Downloader installation

    Make sure you operate on a clean WINEPREFIX (~/.wine)!

    Prerequisite installation by using 'winetricks' script

    Winetricks will take care of all needed installation prerequisites and work around some problems.

    Run the app installer:

    $ wine AmazonMP3DownloaderInstall.exe

    Running the application (downloading mp3 from .amz content)

    Run the application with the .amz file as first argument to start downloading:

    $ pwd
    /home/<your_username>/.wine/drive_c/Program Files/Amazon/MP3 Downloader

    $ wine AmazonMP3Downloader.exe foo.amz

    Amazon MP3 Downloader crashes after file download (Windows Media Player missing)

    Bad programming practice/error handling. The application tries to add the downloaded file to the media library by default using "Windows Media Player" without any error checking.

    You can disable this behaviour in application settings -> "do nothing".

    Alternatively, installing Windows Media Player also works around:

    $ winetricks -q wmp9

    Native Linux Alternative

    Since March 2008 respectively December 2009 there exist the free alternative downloaders clamz and pymazon for Linux.
