WineHQ

GameSpy 3D

This software is supposed to list multiplayer servers for popular games. This is the trial version that does not require subscription. Has more features than the "lite" version, but the user has to put up with some advertising. The readme says this version "...introduces some new features and supports the best new games..." It goes on to say that it support 92 games.

What works

Install. Program runs. Recognized the two games I have installed, Elite Force and Jedi Outcast. Connects game to server.

What does not

When asked to choose profile you created, font colors are messed up so you can't see what you're doing and have to blindly click for where the OK button is.

When trying to update server list, get numerous runtime error messages that say "abnormal program termination." If you click one of them, it exits the application. Ignoring them, the application continues to run.

Clicked icon to update server list. The update server list seemed to stall, so I hit Cancel.

Click "only show these servers" and it will show a list of servers, but names or descriptions are invisible. Just see icons. To see the info, had to right-click, copy to clipboard and paste in another window. I suspect loading MS fonts might fix this, but I only tested with stock Wine install, no extra fonts or DLLs.

Only saw Jedi Outcast icons, no Elite Force icons. Double click on the icon and it will connect game to server, but there was nobody playing on the servers I tried or else there is something else wrong with game play. Not sure which.

Additional Comments

If font problems can be resolved, it seems safe to ignore many of the error message popups and the program might be usable.
