What works

Everything works:

1. the patcher: if you try to simply run the .exe, it won't; if you run it via terminal, it will show what is the problem (or problems). It will tell you that it is missing two .dll files. You'll find those files with a little goolging. I'll make life easier for you by posting them here: mfc42.dll*, and msvcp60.dll*.

 2. the patching: I downloaded the latest available version, 13.1. The patching seemed fine until it hit the patch for version 13.2. For that, I downloaded the manual patch and 'installed' the .zip to the "RagnarokOnline" directory. By this time, the patcher will skip the download for version 13.2. The game will now start.

 On another note, I found out, for some reason, that the patching is separate for the different server types, i.e., the premium servers (Ragnarok.exe), the free server (RagnarokFree.exe), and the test server (sakray.exe). You'll have to repeat 'step 2' for each.

 3. the game: it works.

What does not

Maintenance of an acceptable FPS rate; I peak at 2.

Additional Comments

I first tested it with the development version 1.1.38 but it didn't work so I regressed to the stable version (which didn't work either). Conclusion: Very unplayable for me Hardware: MacBook 2,1 - Intel C2D 2.16, 2.9GB RAM (4GB attached but beyond capacity), Intel GMA 950 using 64MB RAM* * I used to play Civilization 4 on this thing before Linux, so it couldn't have been that.

• Game starts with fatal error and closes.

You need vcrun2008 for gameplay work. If you execute this without vcrun2008, your instalation can be corrupt (the cause is unknow).
(This does not apply to openpatcher).

• Patcher not shows information of update or receives error
  

Install wine gecko package (the package name varies according with your distribution). you can optionally install ie6 with winetricks instead of wine gecko package. Both work well.

• The game is slow
  

Download this file and add to wine registry:

$ regedit boost.reg
(The performance gain is high.)

• Tweaks in game for performance:

• Simplify aura with /aura command
• Simplify effects with /mineffect command, or use /effect for disable all effects.
• Disable fog with /fog command
