For the retail version, you'll have to install the official latest patch for it to work online. Download here:
The installation of the latest patch does not work in a Windows 7 prefix, but if you temporarily set it back to Windows XP, running the patch works.
Running full screen
Depending on your DE and settings, the application might not run fully full screen. Follow the guide over at WideScreenGaming to manually set your resolution:
What was not tested
The reason I use the Wine version, and not the official Linux binary for ET:QW, is because the Wine version works better for me. The official binary has trouble with multi monitor support, does not support alt-tabbing and is crashed quite hard on me.
