I beg you to please ignore all of my previous test data, as it was tested on Playonlinux. (This was, too, but as I was suggested, I tested it on plain Wine). Disable everything that might slow your performance (I had to disable all desktop effects in KDE 4). Be sure that you have all 32-bit libraries properly installed (if you have an NVIDIA card you must have proprietary drivers and install the nvidia 32-bit libraries; otherwise it will not work). Plus, emulate a virtual desktop with winecfg of about 1280x768... I don't remember exactly; if it doesn't work like that try 1280x760. Then you can change your resolution in-game. Be sure to set your compatibility mode to Windows XP.
