What works
Using Ubuntu 8.10 and Wine 1.1.8: ACT! 4.0 installs and opens fine. The application runs even without need to execute the installer, just copy the files into a WINE directory.
What does not
There are problems with locking mechanims and the application can't open a database.
There is no error message if executed from the terminal:
wine act.exe
it runs fine, but when trying to open the sample database it request user and password which is not requested on Windows.
If I try to open another database (which have several users defined with passwords) it shows the message error:
'An error occurred while opening this database. It may be damaged or missing a component. Do you want to try to restore the database?'
A similar message was showed when two different users trying to access the database in a samba share on Ubuntu 8.10. That time was solved by logging all the Windows users with the same name on the Ubuntu machine.
Workaround: The database can be opened by erasing 'database.lck'. After that the application allows to re-configure the user info and then opens the database.
