What works

Just about everything: the patcher, general gameplay. I've played DAoC under Wine for around a year now and much of that time has been in RvR. The responsiveness of the game is as good as WinXP if not better.

What does not

• It can take from 2 minutes to 60 minutes to connect to the login server. For me, this issue has recently surfaced (either due to my new upgrade to Ubuntu 9.10, a new daoc client version, or something new on the servers). It does seem that if you're trying to log in multiple accounts, that once the first one connects the second will soon follow. You'll get three error  messages before it'll give up and you have to tell it to try to connect again

• Catacombs models don't work. In order to play, you need to disable pixel shaders in winecfg. This causes Catacombs models to be disabled (along with other graphical options like improved water/trees).
• Occasionally, the mouse will flicker if you hold down one of the buttons for mouse look.
• The "New Account" button in the login window doesn't do anything (use http://accounts.eamythic.com to make accounts).
• After the Mythic splash logo, the login window should provide focus on the password field but it doesn't. You have to select the field manually (with your mouse) before you can type.

Additional Comments

- The new all-in-one daoc client (i.e., the one that is only a few megabytes in size but then downloads ~4GB of data) was not working in wine 1.0.1 but works in wine 1.1.32. - You can skip the patcher (assuming your client is the newest version) by directly running login.dll ("wine login.dll") - You can run as many DAoC clients as you wish by using a different WINEPREFIX for each. E.g., ("WINEPREFIX=~/.wine wine login.dll" and then "WINEPREFIX=~/.wine2 wine login.dll", etc.)

Using FBO as the ORM crashes with fglrx drivers

This is not a Wine bug, it is a fglrx bug.  Please do not open a bug for this, it will just be closed.
