HOWTO Run Football Manager 2008 under Wine

Running Football Manager 2008 under Wine

Installing the game

You need a Wine version >0.9.48 in order to install the game without the j2re environment

Launch winecfg and choose XP as Windows version.

Move to the CD directory and run the installer

wine setup.exe

Follow the instructions.

Running and Playing Football Manager 2008

Launch winecfg and choose Vista as Windows version.

Replace the original fm.exe file with the no-cd version (fm.exe file is located in ~/.wine/drive_c/Program Files/Sports Interactive/Football Manager 2008/fm.exe by default). The no-cd file is available on dedicated websites, do not ask here please...

Move to FM directory (~/.wine/drive_c/Program Files/Sports Interactive/Football Manager 2008 by default)

Launch the game

wine fm.exe

Please use the 8.01 "beta" patch, this version doesn't need a no-cd patch.
