Out of the box, I had trouble with the program hanging after idling for more than a few minutes -- never during an online game, but very reliably program would completely hang.
I traced it down to a problem with riched20.dll. I ran into lots of "fixme" errors like WM_STYLECHANGED or WM_STYLECHANGING. I don't know if this is the proper way to do it, but the following made the (many) errors go away:
What does not
everything I've tried works after the above configuration
What was not tested
some of the other games (bughouse, etc)
This is a fantastic program. It's freeware and it's probably the best client for playing Internet chess that I've seen. Pychess, which is in development for Linux, looks to be just as good, but is still a little immature. It could be ready for primetime by summer 2009, so I check their website frequently to see if there are updates.

One of the users mentions
"It seems that you must choose "everyone" (Who can use this programm at setup window) and NOT "just me". If you choose "just me" then babaschess crash and you have to do a new installation of babaschess."
I have found the zip packages to to best. You can find them on the download page (http://www.babaschess.net/download.asp) towards the middle.
I tend to turn off the emoticons in the program.
