What works
-installer works
-offficial multiplayer patch can be applied after you copied the missing language.dat from a hellgate-installation on windows
-with that patch applied the application can be started
-menus work
-singleplayer game can be started and seems to run (really slow but it runs)
What does not
-the mouse does not work at all (can't move the cursor nor do any clicks get recognized)
-it's impossible to actually play because of the missing mouse-support
-the multiplayer version can not connect to the server; with wine-versions before 0.9.55 give you a "connection error 8-2709: check anti-virus and firewall configuration", with wine 0.9.55 hellgate just gets stuck on the loading screen when trying to log into your account
Workarounds
What was not tested
how stable it runs

Additional Comments
It seems to run, but since the mouse does not work at all this program cannot be used for the purpose it was designed for -> still a garbage rating

Before starting, i would begin on step 3 downloading the patch, then come back up top :p
1. I made sure I got directx 9 up by doing this...
download and install a DirectX DLL
wget www.m3fe.com/files/d3dx9_34.zip
unzip d3dx9_34.zip -d ~/.wine/drive_c/windows/system32/
set d3dx9_34.dll as native in winecfg/libraries
2. Install Hellgate London
I put in the cd and just right click on "Setup.exe" and choose run under wine. I did a standard install.
3. Download and Install Patch
US patch = downloads.hellgatelondon.com/patches/standalone/multiplayer/Patch_NA_Europe_Germany_MP_1.0_(1.0.27.4101.a).exe
4. Put these two files into your \hellgate london\Data\ folder, to get around the error for region and language.
www.rapidshare.com/files/89424496/language.dat.html
www.rapidshare.com/files/89424497/region.dat.html
5. Cry to Zeus that this game isnt compatable :(
Aparrently theres a bug listing that gets people into game, but its over my head, if anyone can explain this page to me heres a link...

I have no idea what you mean by 'this game isn't compatible', like no one can guess what isn't working for you. Like do you get the loading screen lockup, is something up with the intro videos, are you surprised that the cursor isn't working, ...
Well both Dominik and I have gotten Hellgate London SP-mode to run but since the mouse isn't working at all you can't call this 'playing the game'. MP mode fails because of a connection error (err:wininet:NETCON_secure_connect couldn't verify the security of the connection, 20) and the missing mouse support.
For details on how we got that far you can read our comments on this very page. :> Good luck! :>
