Installation, the game itself, video, keyboard/mouse, sound, etc...
What does not
High detail effects under the graphics option, like smoke and blurring. I just turned it off
What was not tested
Multiplayer - I heard Punk Buster will not work in WINE, but that you can play on multiplayer servers with no punk buster.
The game works well if you turn off all the high detail settings and effects. It still looks fine and the game is playable. I am almost to the end of the game. Videos and cut scenes work well. I needed to do some tweaking to install and get the game running. 1) download WINE 0.9.54 source code 2) apply the WINE game patch (you can find this online by googling) against the WINE source by executing the command: patch -p1 < the-text-patch-file. Then ./configure, make depend, make, and make install. VOILA! 3) copied over some DX9 DLL's from my Windows partition to ~/.wine/drive_c/windows/system32. I also read that you can do a Directx9 install, copy some core Windows DLL files, then run the setup again and test with dxdiag. I did not need to do this. 4) Install the game from the DVD 5) find a way to get the game loading without the DVD media - I'll leave this up to you. And that's it! I did try running CoD4 on WINE 0.9.47, but it does not work. I needed to use 0.9.54.
