HowTo / Notes

HOWTO - Installation

Note. This used to be the procedure to get CC3 to work, but under recent Wine version, I cannot get it to install at all any more. Hopefully this will change in the future.

    1. Make sure you have the most updated installers from ProFantasy. These are available from your order page. This is especially important, because the older installers relied somewhat on .net, which doesn't work very well with Wine. ProFantasy have created new installers for all their components, that no longer relies on any .net version
    2. Install CC3 using the installer.
    3. Install the latest patch (Available from your registration page, currently version 3.42 [Update 10]). Note that this will produce an error message about the C++ runtime not finding an installation directory. This error is not critical, but some of the effects relies on these libraries, and will not work. Most effects work however.
    4. Install any add-on you might own
    5. Install the latest patch again.
    6. Run CC3. Everything should work properly.
Note that you might have problems using the help files under Wine, becuase the help file viewer in Wine does not support the .chm files. To work around this, you can either use a .chm viewer installed natively on your linux desktop (like GnoCHM)), or you can use the online version found at http://www.profantasy.com/cchelp/fcad32.htm
    WARNING
Make sure you use the newest versions of the installers. Old version relied on .net, which didn't work very well with Wine. ProFantasy has since removed this dependency from all it's installers. New version of the installers are available from your order page or Registration Page.
    Font Sizes

When opening existing maps, you'll find that the fonts don't render the same size as on Windows.

This can be fixed by changing the font properties of the existing text in the map and unchecking the 'Use New Metrics' option. This should cause the fonts to render the same size (extremely close anyway) as they did on Windows, and they'll still display fine if you open that map in Windows.

You should obviously keep this option off for any new text you place if you want to be able to open the map in Windows and have it look the same.

Thanks to CSANecromancer in the ProFantasy forums for this tip.
