What works

Everything I tried worked well. Even the html sites show correctly in the appropriate window.

Minor problems remain

What does not

The biggest issue is, that the starting of a game takes too long (about 10 seconds). Most opponents close their windows by that time and so the program is unusable.

Playing works well however if the opponent is patient enough to wait for the linux user to get started.

This problem was not present in earlier versions of wine (it worked well out of the box from 2005 till 4/2007 versions of wine and Playchess)

Another issue is that in my configuration (Kubuntu Gutsy with compiz-fusion) Playchess and game windows overlap the control bar and need to be resized manually.
