Pressing escape while the mouse is in the (emulated virtual desktop) window locks up the game. Moving the mouse outside the window and pressing escape works fine and will un-lock it. This prevents exiting cleanly using the default WM-managed windows since the game goes fullscreen, leaving no way to mouse out.
