Soldier of Fortune II: Double Helix

MP Test

  • I haven't tried (nor do I have a need to try) the actual game, but the dedicated server console for SOF2 Multi Test works perfectly. I'm using the 1108 version of CW WINE and Linux-Mandrake 8.2.

What works

Installation, Placement of shortcut on KDE 3.5.2 Desktop, Character selection/naming, all options/configurations in game option menu, Local server starts and works great including server admin gameplay (during which everything works, sounds, appears and performs without error)

What does not

Viewing the readme file following installation (but this can be done by viewing it with Open Office manually at a later time or any other program which supports opening real text files .rtf document format)

Workarounds

What was not tested

Playing with others on local server, Joining a remote server (because when I tried to refresh a list of remote servers no remote server list was presented, maybe this error message in my X terminal is related?: "fixme:wininet:InternetGetConnectedState always returning LAN connection." or perhaps this multiplayer demo is dated and the company doesn't run a free public server for the demo anymore?)

Additional Comments

This was an early Multiplayer test demo, a quote from the included readme file: "This downloadable code is only a test of the technology for Soldier of Fortune II: Double Helix®. This is not a representation of the final version of the game, nor is this download an official demo of the Multiplayer aspect of the title." I'm sure a lot of Linux WINE users would enjoy this multiplayer demo if only someone would host some servers of it for others to play on. While there was already a "MP Test" listed in the Wine Application DB, the reviewer for that particular version failed to release a version # for the test and at the time of the testing, there may have been various test builds so here a version # for a test version is very important.
