What works

  1. Installer comes up; provides splash. With guesswork, seems to install the IDE. One can blindly print out the License/Terms-and-conditions.
  2. After install, cding to the install directory (~/.wine/drive_c/Program Files/Nokia/Carbide.c++ v1.2) and running "wine Carbide.c++.exe" generates a splash, prompts for a working directory, and then gives an error about the JVM failing (this last may be completely independent of wine)

What does not

  1. Fails to pass "readme" info to FireFox (complains the browser must be restarted)
  2. After the initial splash and InstallShield Wizard dialog with "Next>", text/images in buttons don't render. Installation can only proceed if you "click blind" on the button(s) or hit return to accept the defaults
  3. Per above, running the IDE starts, but reports an error starting the JVM.

Workarounds

What was not tested

  • options in the installer that I couldn't read
  • non-default answers to installer options
  • the IDE itself, since the JVM doesn't start

Additional Comments

I may be able to test this installer out on a debian-stable system with a more current version of wine. For now I'm stuck with RHEL4 plus some limited updates from the Dag RPM and RPMforge repositories (which is where I could get a ready-to-run version of wine 0.9.48 in the first place). With a little hand-holding, I would be willing to be a "maintainer" of this application; this is my first date with wine, so be gentle.
