There is a Linux Native version of Minecraft available, it is recommended that you use it instead.

Minecraft is a game developed in Java, where you survive in a 16-bit block world. You start with nothing, and try to build a house. But, at night at night monsters come out to kill you (also available in "Peaceful")!

Minecraft is developed by Markus Persson. It's been under development since about May 10, 2009.
