Aliens Versus Predator

This classic horror shoot 'em up from Rebellion works very well in Wine

The mouse virtualisation bug (6971) is still outstanding, but only affects the game in windowed mode. A workaround has been added in wine-1.1.3, enabling very near perfect gameplay [see the version 1.0 HOWTO] in wine-1.1.4 (where a regression bug was fixed). Only relatively minor sound glitches remain.

The open source implementation of the game, which used to be a viable alternative to wine, is no longer maintained, and relies on some rather old tools and libraries.

Crysis Crysis is a science fiction first-person shooter video game developed by German video game developer Crytek and published by Electronic Arts, and is the first game of a planned trilogy. It was released on November 13, 2007 in North America, November 15 in Australia, November 16 in Europe, November 23 in New Zealand, and November 29 in Japan. Well-received by critics, sales were initially slow as early NPD figures were taken as a sign that the game had flopped. However, during Electronic Arts' Q3 2008 Earnings Conference Call, it was stated that Crysis had sold over one million copies worldwide in the fiscal quarter and that the game continues to exceed sales expectations.

Crysis is based in a fictional future where an ancient alien spacecraft has been discovered beneath the Earth on an island near the coast of China. The single-player campaign has the player assume the role of United States Delta Force operator Jake Dunn, referred to in-game by his call sign, Nomad. Nomad is armed with various futuristic weapons and equipment, most notably a "Nano Muscle Suit" which, according to Crytek senior game designer Bernd Diemer, was inspired by the United States' Future Force Warrior 2020 program. In Crysis, the player fights both North Korean and extraterrestrial enemies, in four different locations: a tropical island jungle, inside an "Ice Sphere" (consisting of the same jungle, but frozen), the alien ship itself (with a zero-gravity area) and a U.S. Navy aircraft carrier. Crysis uses Microsoft's new API, Direct3D 10 (DirectX 10) for graphics rendering, and includes the same editor that was used by Crytek to create the game.

Crysis 2 Crysis 2 is a science fiction first-person shooter video game developed by German video game developer Crytek and published by Electronic Arts. This is the second game of a planned trilogy. It will be released on March 22 2011 in North America, March 25 in Europe.

The game is set in New York City in the year 2023 (three years after the events of the first game), which has since been evacuated due to alien infestation. Similar to its predecessor, Crysis 2 will provide freedom to customize weaponry and abilities. Crytek wanted to avoid making another game set in a jungle environment, as were Far Cry and Crysis; New York City has been dubbed an "urban jungle". The urban atmosphere offers more options in how to progress and plan attacks. Players will be able to navigate between floors and buildings, as well as a destroyed cityscape.

Deus Ex: Human Revolution

Deus Ex: Human Revolution is an action role-playing stealth video game developed by Eidos Montréal and published worldwide by Square Enix in August 2011. It is the third game in the Deus Ex series, and a prequel to the original Deus Ex. The gameplay—combining first-person shooter, stealth and role-playing elements—features exploration and combat in environments connected to multiple city-based hubs. in addition there are quests that grant experience and allow customization of the main character's abilities with items called Praxis Kits.

Set in the year 2027, Human Revolution focuses on ex-SWAT officer Adam Jensen, who is employed as security officer for Sarif Industries, a company on the leading edge of advanced and controversial artificial organs dubbed "augmentations". An attack on Sarif Industries that apparently kills researcher and Adam's ex-girlfriend Megan Reed also leaves Adam critically injured. To save him, company CEO David Sarif subjects him to an extensive augmentation procedure: six months later, now recovered and possessing advanced augmentations, Adam sets out to pursue his attackers and the shadowy organization behind them. The story explores themes of transhumanism, the growing power of megacorporations, and their impact on social class. It also uses the series' recurring cyberpunk setting and conspiracy theory motif.

A director's cut of Human Revolution, titled Deus Ex: Human Revolution – Director's Cut, was announced in April 2013. It was co-produced by Eidos Montréal, Australian developer Straight Right and Canada-based Snowed In Studios. One of the major changes was the boss arenas: while they could not create non-lethal options to take down bosses, the team created alternate strategies for players who took a stealthy and otherwise non-lethal path. They also made adjustments to the energy system, improved enemy AI, and upgrades to the lighting and shading systems.

Entropia Universe

This real cash economy MMORPG was originally known as Project Entropia, but when the pioneering project to establish a toehold colony in robotic enemy space was completed, the project evolved into a universe. Current universe locations consist of a planet (Calypso) with two continents (Eudoria and Amethera), a satellite space station (the Crystal Palace) and a privately-owned asteroid resort (Club Neverdie). Club Neverdie currently holds the world record for most valuable virtual property (Guiness Book of World Records).

The game is free to download and has no monthly fee. Players can deposit money ($1 = 10 Project Entropia Dollars) to buy gear and ammunition or they can attempt to bootstrap themselves into economic solvency by collecting raw materials such as fruit and "Vibrant Sweat" and working as traders. The primary professions are hunting, mining, and crafting. PvP is in designated areas only. The developer, MindArk, takes its income from the increase in entropy ("decay") of weapons and tools as they are used.

The other well-known real cash economy virtual world is Second Life. EU differs in being much more game-centric, with user-designed content playing a supporting, rather than principle, role.

VU (version updates) with new content are released on a regular, but erratic, basis. The major VU 9.0 was released on Oct 2007.

Notable future plans for EU include the transition to the CRYENGINE graphical and gaming engine in 2008 and the opening of new planets, including an agreed-upon collaborative, large-scale integration of China.

Many useful player operated resources are available online. In particular, the Entropia Forum and Entropedia wiki are useful.

Gothic 3

While the previous games centered around the Valley of Mines and Khorinis, Gothic 3 moves away from those locations to a newer, larger environment. This story involves the continent of Myrtana, which is in the midst of war. Orcs have enslaved the human kingdom with only a few free humans living in the nearly uninhabitable icy northlands of Nordmar, the southern desert of Varrant, and the mountainous forests of the Middle Realm. Players can choose to join the rebellion and stay true to the deposed human king, serve the Orcish usurpers in their quest to topple the last remaining human stronghold, or choose a path that serves their own ends. Every decision made has an impact on the game world, and tips the in-game balance of power. Given the non-linear storyline, every game is theoretically unique, with the player ultimately deciding the fate of humankind. A number of NPCs accompany the player throughout the game.

In a land torn by constant danger, raids and skirmishes, you will raise and lead your own war band, commanding dozens of hardened soldiers. You will hunt down your enemies following the tracks they leave behind. And you will fight epic battles where arrows cut the air with deadly hisses, axes and swords hack with fury, and horses and men clash into a violent melee.

Mount&Blade: Warband expands on the original game by introducing a sixth faction, The Sarranid Sultanate, increasing the political options, allowing players to start their own faction, and incorporating multiplayer modes.

Mount&Blade: With Fire & Sword is spin-off stand-alone expansion for Mount&Blade. The game and its storyline is loosely based on the novel With Fire and Sword by Henryk Sienkiewicz, depicting Poland's 1648-51 war against Khmelnytsky Uprising in Ukraine, and its sequels dealing with the invasion of Poland by Sweden - then a major military power - and with Polish wars against the Ottoman Empire. While written long before video games were invented, Sienkiewicz's plot lines - involving sweeping grand sagas of heroic warfare - are readily adapted to the modern medium.

The Saga of Ryzom

Saga of Ryzom (SoR) is a MMORPG set in a semi-fantasy/technical "living" world.

You play as one of 4 races: Fyros - the desert peopole, Matis - the forest dwellers, Zorai - blue peopole of the jungle and Tryker - the small ones from the lakelands.
Two other NPC races are also present: The Karvan - technology centered space traveler and the Kami - the mysterious magical beeings. Both the Karavan and the Kamis claim to be the true guardians of the planet, both come to the aid of homins as long as they obey their rules, both are secretive about their origins and perhaps even their true intentions. For centuries now, they have followed different paths, observing one another without confrontation.

The game is class less and skill based. It contains an inovative actions system where player can compose their own spells and fighting actions by combining predefined "stanzas". NPC's and mobs move around and interact with each other, for eaxmple carnivoures will attack and feed on herbivours. Different types of PvP combat coexist in Ryzom, and - since not everyone likes PvP - you can choose whether or not to get involved. If you are looking to engage in player combat, the game offers various possibilities: Duels, GvG (Guild vs. Guild), FvF (Fraction vs. Fraction) and full PvP. Ryzom also offers a extensive foraging and crafting system, high quality and enchanted items are only provided by player crafters.
Ryzom is also known for its friendly community and responsive CSR team. It is developed on the GPL'ed NeL engine made by Nevrax.

It also contains the R2 (Ryzom Ring) client, a scenario editor that allows players to create their own scenario instances and have other players participate in them.

The game has been sold to the german game company GameForge. GameForge sold the game to SpiderWeb (FR). Winch Gate Property Limited bought the game from SpiderWeb.

The game now has a native linux client.

Transformers: War for Cybertron

Transformers: War for Cybertron is a third person shooter that takes place prior to the Transformers: Prime animated series, when the Transformers still lived on the fictional machine planet Cybertron. The game has two distinct campaigns, one for each faction. The story of the Decepticon campaign is a prelude to the Autobot campaign's story. Both campaigns can be played in single-player or cooperatively via online multiplayer, and can drop in or out of the game at any time. Each campaign level features three playable Transformers. If fewer than three players are present, the game's AI controls the remaining playable characters.

URU: The Complete Chronicles This adventure allows you to explore new almost unrealistic worlds that are puzzles by themselves. This is the first game of the Myst series that has a full 3D rendered world. The interesting part of the game is that there are slight RPG elements incorporated into the game such as character visual bonus items and a home (relto) which can be upgraded. "Uru: the complete chronicles": differs from standard Uru in two ways. 1.) It has the two expansion packs incorporated (To D'ni and The path of the shell) 2.) The engine is not the same as for uru version 1.2 GOG.com version

Warcraft III

Warcraft III: Reign of Chaos is the fourth game installment of the Warcraft story (including the expansion to Warcraft II, Beyond the Dark Portal). The Orcs and Humans continue to fight each other at their own peril according to a mysterious prophet.

The game perpetuates Blizzard's high reputation in real-time strategy games. You cut down trees, mine for gold, and build buildings so that you can train troops. It is designed with a focus on heroes; characters with special abilities that are tougher than the average unit. It is no longer limited to Orcs and Humans. Now there are also Night-Elves and the Undead. Each race has unique units and strategies.

Warcraft III uses a full 3D engine and the graphics certainly live up to Blizzard's reputation. The cinematics have an uncanny realism. Although the characters still look a little cartoony, their expressions and movements are very organic, and the rest of the cinematics could possibly be mistaken for film footage.

Wars and Warriors: Joan of Arc To be honest, it is hard to classify this title. Some strategy, some RPG, adventure, but more action, so I decided to put it in Action cathegory. A-must-be for those, who like historical games, visiting medieval castles, using machinas from that age. Maybe one can find some educational values in this game. English / digital download
